The worlds only film and TV conventions designed for visually impaired people, disabled people & people with learning difficulties.
Founded in 2013 by Si Howard and JJ Lucia-Wright what started off as a small event in a backroom has grown into one of the biggest fan run Film, TV and Comic Cons in the country. So much so, they have outgrown the Kingsgate Conference Centre in Peterborough and they are moving to the East of England arena.
Feel the Force Day keeps their costs as low as possible (tickets are £7.50 and carers go free) – it is the most amazing day out for everyone.
Si, JJ and their fantastic team put on an event that EVERYONE can feel comfortable at. FTFD events are accessible for wheelchairs and scooters of all shapes and sizes, aisles are wide to allow guests with walking aids to pass, tables are at a height that chairs and shorter guests can access. There are sensory rooms and touch tables for guests with visual or hearing problems, quiet rooms for guests who are anxious, autistic and have other issues with noise and crowds. Guests are encouraged to touch props and costumes – it is a festival of sound and vision, touch and taste – something for all the senses – even if that means very quiet and one on one experience.
In 2018 over 6,000 visitors came through the doors, moving to the bigger venue means there will be even more space, room for 8,000 visitors, more room for displays and vehicles – bigger space means more costs, which is why the 2019 run needs to raise more funds. If you can help in anyway please let us know.
After raising , over £1,000 in 2016 Sam and Sharon decided this should be an annual thing.
In 2017 Sam dragged her other half Ben and son James, plus we also brought Mandy and Jonathan too. Jonathan has celebal palsy and Mandy is a baking legend at Feel the Force Day – we had an amazing time and raised almost another thousand pounds for Feel the Force Day. When we finished the 10k Ben suggested that the 10k was easy and we could do the half no problem.
2018 was the year of the challenge. After Ben’s revelation that it would be no problem Sharon and Ben signed up to do the 36k challenge. Sam and James signed up for the 5k and 10k. Over all we ran over 100k and raised over £1,000 again for Feel the Force Day.
In 2018 we also took all the medals (thanks to Ben’s awesome carpentry skills for the medal stands), tshirts and a scrap book to show the visitors and guests at Feel the Force Day what we did and why we do it and it went down a storm. So much so we will be taking everything to other events throughout the year to raise awareness for the 2019 run and to tell the world about Feel the Force Day.
One of the reasons Feel the Force Day exists is to make it possible for guests with disabilities to enjoy a sci-fi convention / comic con in the same manner as (and I hate to use this word) normal guest. Not all disabilities are visible and some are very visible – so the amazing team at Feel the Force Day put on an event that EVERYONE can feel comfortable at – find out more :
